As fast as the class is going into chapter 3, lecturer say our class is in advanced as faster than the other class. So what we going to learn in this class is all about listening. What i have learned in this class is listening is a specilized process, a type of perception which you receive auditory signals from spoken words or even non verbal message.
Beside, listening can help u in many ways such as play, relate, influence and also the important is to learn. After I learned about it, i can only knw that listening and hearing is in two different things.
Listening can be devided into several process such as
For the first stage is receiving, its can be verbally or non-verbally. Receiving is the first stage of that what people tell u ,say something to u and what u received it. Receiving can be more effective if u put more focus or Maintain your role of listener by not interrupting. After that is understanding, it means decoding the speaker's message and ask for more clearance. Then is remembering, use your own words to summarize it in order to let u remember it by ur own ways.
For this remembering, lecturer wanna us to more understanding,he let us do an activity
This was the activity he gave us, there are 20 words on the screen, he want us remember it all within 2 minutes. During the 2min some students are memorize it in a suffer way, some are easily to remember it. This is because, thy use their own ways to links all the words tgth for easy remember. For example, thy use bed rest tired and night these few words link into 'in the night, thy are tired and need for a rest on the bed' #just an example.
Beaide, evaluating is the nxt stage after remebering, so what is evaluating? Its means judging what u hear and resista evaluating till you remember it. The last is responding, means giv respond the the speaker in order to let him or her to knw u r listening to her/him, its also a express support for the speaker in your final response.
Sometimes listening are difficult as the problem is communication system between speaker and receiver and what is the problem. Its because of experience and also in different culture. So thr are few type diversity of listening and culture.
The second is Non-verval behavioral differences,it means people from different culture have their own display of rules. For example, for some countries showing middle finger is just a normal non-verbal message, not a bad one. But for most of the countries showing our middle finger are bad.
The third is Direct and indirect styles, direct style is saying what you mean and indirect styles is people usually turn a big circle to tell someone that they are wrong. For example, your brother did wrong and you didn't wanted to hurt his feelings so you turn a big circle to tell him that he is wrong instead of saying it directly.
Forth, Balance of story versus evidence. In other countries, people want evidence before making decisions rather than critical thinking.
Fifth, its Credibility. Culture will depends weather a speaker will be credibility or not.
Last is feedback. For some people they would give a direct and honest, 'truth' feedback. It could be positive and it could be negative. But some other culture thinks that it is more important to give only 'positive' feedback weather the situation is positive or negative. They want the feedback to be positive rather than truthful.
